Senior NPD Manager m/f/d

 

Location: Southern Europe/Mediterranean Sea

 

  • Reporting to the Head of R&D, the Senior NPD Manager is the major product development specialist  that leads and is supported by a group of skilled product technologists and technicians.

  • The NPD Manager focuses across product categories and is a technical expert in the areas of raw material selection and categorisation,  mixed powder/dry ingredient processing  with a strong background in analytics and sensory .

 

Key Accountabilities

Product I&R

  • Lead the Product Development pipeline by ensuring effective collaboration with other departments to build and define concept briefs for the key brands and leading projects from conceptualization to industrialization in the respective category

  • Leading the ingredient knowledge database by planning, organizing and performing a broad range of ingredient research and/or development activities utilizing, specialized knowledge to create differentiating technology and serving as a subject matter expert in the particular area of powder processing whilst capturing all the information in an organized manner

  • Strong  to interpret analytical data

  • Excellent ability to interpret and communicate data from from analytical, sensorial and consumer reports

  • Ability to create a climate of innovation – has passion for new knowledge, experiences and challenges

  • Keep abreast of technical development for ingredients, colours, flavours. sweeteners etc.

  • Build technical knowledge in area of emulsions, gelling, hydro-colloids stability and  and provide knowledge transfer to the overall R&D team

  • Ensure adherence to stability program in the respective category

  • Ensure lean product design is applied throughout the whole process

 

Technical Leadership

  • Develop ingredients solutions, design, and manage trials and experiments as required to deliver project solutions that meet the requirements defined across markets

  • Lead trials/experiments in kitchen/lab/pilot and factory scale to achieve all briefed objectives on time

  • Ability to transfer complex innovation and ideas to an industrial environment

  • Develop robust product specifications (from a nutritional and ingredient stand point) to ensure sustainable and flexible formulas that will meet consumer, quality and process needs

  • Work with in close relationship with leading suppliers to ensure most cost effective and most suitable ingredient selection and to and maintain and expand supplier network

  • Participate and contribute as a member of a cross-functional team. Actively drive product and process conceptualization, development and scale-up. Interface on a project implementation team by assisting with hand-off from development to start-up and providing operational training as required

 

Team work

  • Demonstrate technical leadership by searching constantly for new opportunities and the ability to share the knowledge across the R&D team and the wider business functions

  • Challenge constructively at all levels to ensure best outcome for the organisation

  • Orchestrate the definition of targets for the R&D project

  • Maintain and improve upon the communications between R&D and external contacts

  • Continue development of project leadership skills and technical expertise

Ideal Candidate

Education

  • PhD or Master degree, preferably in Life Sciences

Experience

  • >5 years of Project Management experience preferably in R&D and/or Food & Beverages with particular focus on powder or dry ingredient processing

  • >7 years of experience in R&D, Operations and/or commercial functions in Business Units

  • International experience/exposure to multinational environment

 

Technical skills

  • Significant knowledge of blending, processing of dry ingredients i.e. low to high particle sized powders

  • Strong knowledge in particle size distribution analyses and technologies to impact or infuse particle sizes of dry materials

  • Experience in the area of agglomeration, granulation, drying and spray drying technologies

  • Proven ability to understand ingredient interaction with processing parameters and packaging interactions

  • Significant knowledge in the usage of stabilizing system, flavours, colour, sweetening systems

  • Proven ability enhance and improve existing production processes and to introduce innovative and new processes into a factory environment

  • Solid understanding of nutrition and ingredient attributes

  • Advanced ingredient functionality, process knowledge across diverse food categories

  • Successfully managed small to medium sized groups of people

  • Good sensorial/consumer understanding

  • Excellent project management skills
